Bernard Tomic

The 2010 WTC Hot Shots event will be hosted on centre court at Memorial Drive and kids this year can either participate on either Tuesday or Wednesday's session which starts at 9:30am and finishes at 10:30am (Registration at 9am).

As Ben Hyde outlined in the Advertiser (6th Jan 2010):

"Tennis legends and champions will not be the only ones testing their skills at Memorial Drive this month for World Tennis Challenge."

The WTC Hot Shots event is based on the highly successful Tennis Australia modified tennis program Hot Shots and is aimed at introducing kids between 5 - 10 to the sport. CEO Of Tennis SA Alistair MacDonald was thrilled with the inagural WTC Hot Shots Event in 2009 and is pleased to see two sessions during WTC in 2010.

"Last year was massive. One-hundred and eighty kids was proabbly too many so this year there are two sessions and a little bit more intimate. The idea with Hot Shots is to get kids playing tennis quicker so that they feel that there playing the game and if we can combine that with kids meeting some legends of tennis and current super stars to inspire them then that is fantastic".

Mr MacDonald also suggested that the WTC Hot Shots was not just for the kids:

"Last year we had all the kids with Pat Cash headbands whacking tennis balls around having so much fun. Then we had families lining up for autogaphs with players and I can tell you there were a lot of parents getting photos and autographs from Pat Cash. All the legends had so much fun with the kids and I have so much time for the way Pat Cash was keen to inspire these kids."

WTC Hot Shots will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday and you can register on-line under the Be Active section of thiswebsite or call Anne-Marie Handke at Tennis SA on (08) 7224 8100.
